The 13 days Tanzania tour with Zanzibar explores the country’s bush and beach. It is a safari through the northern circuit with game drives and ends with a relaxation at the beaches of Zanzibar and exploring the region.

Day 1-Arrival and pick up

Overview Details

Welcome to Arusha, the gateway to the Tanzania’s famous parks. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your Hotel. You’ll spend your evening in this lovely hotel, with dinner before your safari truly begins.

Destination: Arusha town

Day 1-Arrival and pick up

Welcome to Arusha, the gateway to the Tanzania’s famous parks. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your Hotel. You’ll spend your evening in this lovely hotel, with dinner before your safari truly begins.

Day 2-Transfer to Tarangire

In the morning you will be collected from your lodgings in Arusha by your private safari guide. You will drive to Tarangire National Park on a good tarmac road across gently rolling Masai plains with scattered acacia trees. On the way, you will pass many Masai in their colorful dress walking on the roadside, riding bicycles, herding cattle and driving donkey carts. Tarangire National Park, well known for its large elephant herds, is also host to a multitude of other animals. From the open roof of your safari jeep, you will see seasonal swamps, savanna and the life giving Tarangire River. You will see zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant and giraffe, to name but a few. If lucky, you will see lion stalking prey or leopards watching, relaxing in the trees above. After your extensive game drive, you will drive to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Day 3-Full day at Tarangire

The Tarangire National Park has the highest density of elephants in North Tanzania and you can view these animals all year round in which the herds often can reach an impressive number of 300 animals. The Tarangire River has water all year round and during the dry season, between July and October, many animals from the surrounding areas come to the river for drinking. You will witness an unforgettable natural wonder as you can observe wonderful creatures such as lions, giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests, and zebras as well as various types of antelopes and gazelles and with a little luck, you can also spot a python. You will leave the lodge after breakfast with packed lunch and return in the evening.

Day 4-Transfer to Lake Manyara and do an evening game walk

Lake Manyara is 70km in the northwest of Tarangire National park. Today we shall wake up at leisure and have our breakfast, and later check out for our drive to Lake Manyara national park. It is spectacular, scenic, and incredibly diverse. The park trees shelter lions and this earned the park a tagline “Home of Tree climbing lions”. After our arrival we shall go for a forest walk (Marang’ forest) or walking safari and later have an overnight here.

Day 5-Game drives at Lake Manyara and Drive to Lake Eyasi

Today after our breakfast, we shall do a game drive. From the bird-fringed shores of the soda lake, normally the pink-hued flamingoes and pelicans that shade the water of the alkaline lake with a pink reflection, grassy plains, and tall trees, the park teems with wildlife that can be watched on drives through the park. Encounter the lions as they lounge in trees, leopards, troops of baboons, zebras. Maasai giraffes, klipspringer, Did-diks, impalas, waterbucks, and several birds. After, the game drive we shall drive the strip from Lake Manyara to Lake Eyasi for an overnight.

Day 6- Visit the communities

Africa is not just wildlife but also the people. We would love you to explore the culture and diversity of the people. Today after breakfast, we shall visit the fringes of Lake Eyasi and experience the culture of the bush people. We shall learn their way of life, go on a hunt with them, and learn about the plants they use for various ways. We shall have a picnic lunch from here and later return to the lodge.

Day 7-To Ngorongoro crater (Cultural tour)

Today we wake up and have breakfast after transfer to Ngorongoro crater. The crater is a 2 hour drive from Lake Eyasi. We shall arrive check in at our lodge and after our lunch we shall go for a cultural tour. In addition to the beautiful scenery, archaeological wealth and abundant wildlife, Ngorongoro Conservation Area is also blessed with a proud people – the Maasai – a pastoral tribe that has maintained their traditional culture a great deal. Before the Maasai, there were other tribes that also occupied Ngorongoro, some as cattle herders, like the Datoga, and others as hunters, like the Hadzabe; and then moved on, sometimes forced out by other groups. We shall visit a community and later return to the lodge.

Day 8- Crater drive and relaxation at the lodge

Every moment of staring into the Ngorongoro crater is magical and nothing can prepare for such a moment. Game viewing is the major activity in the crater and it is one of the places in the Swahili land that usually rewards guests with Big 5 sightings in a day. Mostly game viewing at the park is limited to game drives. We shall drive into the crater for game viewing and return to the lodge for a relaxed afternoon.

Day 9-To Serengeti

In the morning after breakfast, we shall drive to the southern part of Serengeti National park. The southern part stretches from the Ngorongoro crater to the central. We shall drive through the southern part to the central at a pace that allows us to watch game. February is good to see the birthing/calving season of wildebeests here. We drive through and have an overnight at the central Serengeti.

Day 10- Game drive

On this day after an early breakfast, you will do an early game drive seeing the sunrise, then head to explore various parts of the park depending on where the animals have migrated to, expect to see a lot of wildebeest and zebras in a strategic partnership for their survival, a lot of big cats are present in the park lucky enough you can witness a hunt action. Apart from the migrating herds, we may have the opportunity to see the resident predators, leopard, cheetah, and lion, fulfilling their role in the circle of life. After an extensive game drive, we head for our Accommodation for a hearty dinner and another night by the fire of relaxation and conversation under the sweeping majesty of the star bright African night out upon the ‘Endless Plain’. You will drive to your accommodation where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight.

Day 11- To Arusha and Fly to Zanzibar

Today we drive from Serengeti to Arusha. We shall have lunch on our way and from here you will be dropped at the airport for a flight to Zanzibar. When you arrive, you will be dropped at the lodge/hotel. You can have an evening by the beach.

Note: There is an option to fly from Serengeti to Zanzibar at an Extra cost.

Day 12-Zanzibar tour

Explore Zanzibar. Today we shall take a tour at Stone town and visit the Prison Island. The rich beauty of the history of Zanzibar is in the fascinating Stone town. It bursts with the Swahili atmosphere, charming and enchanting life of an African city. Built-in the 19th century, the town remain not so changed. It has a network of narrow passages/alleys that lead to mosques, palaces, old Arab houses, tiny shops, early morning markets like the famous one at the Creek road, fragrant spice stalls, and fruit stalls. It is best explored on foot. We shall have lunch and after take a boat tour to Prison Island. Arab who used it to confine unruly slaves. It is also home of the Aldabra Giant Tortoise sanctuary. A must see!

Day 13- Departure

Today is the last day. We shall do a spice tour. Spices have a great history in Zanzibar and in the bygone days, they (spices) dominated the island’s economy. The islands exports spices like cloves, nutmegs, vanillas, and cardamom among others across the globe. The spice tour is one of the popular excursions on the island where you walk through the plantations as you learn, touch, taste, and smell different spices. After we shall fly to Dar es Salaam for an exit flight.

Day 2-Transfer to Tarangire

In the morning you will be collected from your lodgings in Arusha by your private safari guide. You will drive to Tarangire National Park on a good tarmac road across gently rolling Masai plains with scattered acacia trees.
